Welcome to the new blog!
Welcome to the new blog!
My ISP is lame and it is taking them time to work out a static IP, typical. So there may be distrupted viewing. The blog will hopefully allow me to post some interesting stuff about what I do or have found.
Google’s AJAX web component is cool. I’ve added the Google Video Search to
the home page, and a Google search bar… content is coming… this takes time.
I use Enlightenment as a Window Manager (I know it’s defined as a shell, but that’s harder to explain). Been using Enlightenment since 1999 and let’s just say releases are slow! But E17 has restored my faith. I had been using E17 on a Gentoo box a while back with good results, but this new distro kills it. There’s no need to setup E17, instead you can just boot you PC and give it a go. I now have this distro installed on the harddisk. I’m a slackware and gentoo fan, so moving to debian on my desktop was a killer (not that i don’t use it just that debian is better suited to servers).
Try Elive 0.4
This is something I want to tryout on my older server, as compiling appz for it is a pain.
Check it out PC-BSD
There’s a number of good firewall distros… ummm again we start seeing BSD
Like the new theme
Feedback said the other theme was lame.
Moved to the University of Reading, my PhD will continue at this institute.
A harddisk in this server failed… a new solution is in the post
It’s going to be real busy at Uni from now onwards… So I’ll probably head back to sos sometime nearer xmas.
The Web server has been updated. It seems like all of my backend services are slowly becoming FreeBSD based.
Dam it’s windy today… Just went out to grab some lunch and saw that Gunwharf’s Historic Vulcan building has structural damage!
When first looking at the area its not clear why this building has been sectioned off? But looking closer you can see death by falling ship! And i bet it’s not light!
Security teams are also stopping people from walking near the waterfront due to the stormy conditions. I’m glad i did not drive into work to day. A University of Portsmouth’s building, namely Mercantile has had some windows blown in on the fourth floor. I wonder how much more we’ll hear today about the destruction the weather has caused.
